Lüdere route
This loop route features the striking climb up to Lüderenalp and an equally thrilling descent.
Lüderenalp is a household name and a long-distance destination for many a cyclist. At 1,144 metres, it is one of the highest passes in the Emmental, offering spectacular views to match. Whilst you approach the pass via secret paths on the Sumiswald side, on the Langnau side you can enjoy the thrill of hurtling back down the entire descent. The Gohlgraben is pure pleasure with its endless gentle descent.
Further information is available from us on site or directly on the Hügu Himu website.
Emme & hills loop
This scenic tour showcases the two sides of the Emmental: rolling hills and valley landscapes. The route is signposted in both directions as Route 99 Herzroute and Route 24.
The route consists of two distinct sections, forming a circular route with wonderful contrasts. Between Burgdorf and Langnau, you follow the Herzroute over all the hills and ridges, before heading from Langnau back to Burgdorf on Route 24, enjoying a relaxed descent along the Emme. Whilst the section on Route 99 is strenuous but spectacular, the return journey on Route 24 is a leisurely ride.
Further information is available from us on site or directly on the Hügu Himu website.

Herzschlaufe Gotthelf
The new Gotthelf loop pays tribute to the famous local poet and social reformer Jeremias Gotthelf, who remains a symbol of the rural Emmental to this day. Starting in Langnau, the route offers wonderful vantage points with views towards the Alps and the Jura. Lützenflüh, where he lived; Sumiswald, the setting for his novella "The Black Spider"; and Trachselwald, where he had a home for children in need built near the castle.
The route immerses you in the rural splendour of the Emmental, surprises with little-known sections and enchants with a route that offers a fresh perspective on this poetic landscape.

Herzschlaufe Napf
Cycle from charming Willisau through the hills of the Oberaargau into the Emmental
The journey from Willisau to Langnau via the foothills of the Napf is a delight. The route approaches the looming cascades of hills with care, repeatedly finding a clever way round them. It is only after the Luthertal that the route rises, leading to a magnificent vantage point from which you can look far out across the Mittelland.
By the time we reach Sumiswald at the latest, the Emmental becomes a defining experience, with increasingly hilly sections putting our muscles to the test. The FLYER masters the climbs with ease, and we enjoy the unspoilt beauty of this rich region, which rises to its highest point at Lüderenalp at over 1,100 metres. Here you can feel it – the power of the Napf – as it emanates from the landscape and enchants our senses. An epic descent takes us to Langnau, the proud heart and culinary hub of the Emmental.

Herzroute Napf - Langnau
Arrive the day before at your leisure and spend a restful night at the Bären Ranflüh. The next day, after a hearty breakfast, set off on the Herzroute.
This stage takes in the southern side of the Napf and its wonderful sun-kissed slopes. From Langnau, we enjoy a leisurely ride along the Ilfis and soon reach Trubschachen, the hearty Emmental village with the tempting scent of baked goods in the air. Here, at 1,200 metres, the panorama of the valley opens up, complete with the rocky arena of the mountains clustered behind it.
It feels like 99 bends take us down to Escholzmatt, carrying us swiftly towards the valley. From here on, we enjoy the most beautiful high-altitude scenery through the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and its scenic gems. Deep ravines open up beneath us, and the mighty slopes of the Napf carry us safely to the village of Entlebuch, where a well-deserved afternoon snack awaits us.

Herzroute Burgdorf - Langnau
Perhaps you’d like to add another loop and spend the night in Ranflüh before setting off on a new route the next day.
You could spend days meandering around this Emmental region, and fortunately, you’re allowed to. The Burgdorf–Langnau stage offers an intimate portrait of this idyllic Swiss landscape, with its laid-back cows, huge farmhouses and scenery that has a uniquely relaxing effect. The Herzroute carefully winds its way up through narrow valleys towards the hills, constantly finding new ridges and traverses to make its way from one ravine to the next, with stunningly beautiful vantage points in between.
The proud town of Burgdorf and the charming farming village of Langnau mark the two centres of the Emmental and frame this otherwise very intimate stage. In between, the route winds its way through the Emmental’s finest attractions: the magical Luterbach Valley, the Mänziwilegg viewpoint, the legendary Moosegg with its sweeping views, and the wonderful high-altitude terrain along the Frittenbach ravines.

Herzroute Langnau - Thun
Perhaps you’d like to spend the night in a cosy country inn?! And set off on your Oberland tour from our Gasthof Bären in Ranflüh.
Between Langnau and Thun, a whole array of scenic delights unfolds, offering almost too much of a good thing. This stage can be considered the most impressive, the longest and perhaps the most spectacular. The first section takes you through the lush Emmental, which captivates with all its splendour. The further you venture towards the mountains, the more rustic it becomes, until the atmosphere in Eriz finally shifts completely to that of the Pre-Alps, where bleating goats and cows graze on the steep slopes below the rocky outcrops.
Gradually, the route descends to the lake 700 metres below and leads us into Thun, the city of the Alps, situated on the banks of the foaming, mint-green Aare.
